BAF ORGANIZES ORIENTATION FOR SEP-M BENEFICIARY SCHOOLS, TO GIVE ALLOWANCES TO PARTICIPANTS
The Bunmi Adedayo Foundation (BAF), has organized a virtual Orientation programme for the beneficiary schools of it’s Free Subject Enhancement Programme in Mathematics (SEP-M). The event was held on Saturday, 11th September, 2021.
At the virtual event attended by school heads and teachers from beneficiary schools, stakeholders stressed the need for quality and competent teachers, describing them as the most important resource in any classroom.
While addressing the beneficiaries, the Project Manager, Ms. Ovigue Akpodikere said that the SEP-M initiative was birth out of the need to proffer solution to the huge and worrisome competency gap that exists among Math teachers in Nigeria. According to her, this has negatively impacted on the performance of pupils and their attitude towards Mathematics.
She emphasized that there is a need for a solution that is need-based and an outcome of objective research which characterize the approach of the SEP-M initiative which conducted baseline research across selected sample schools in Lagos State before developing the training curriculum and key focus areas. Ms. Ovigue mentioned that each beneficiary would be given a training manual, branded noted pad, pen and T-shirt as well as transportation and data allowances to support their full participation in the project.
The Project which is sponsored by Google and supported by Nurture House Consulting, Tastee Fried Chicken, Rite Foods Limited and Home Science Association will impact Math teachers from 300 low-middle cost schools in Lagos State.
Earlier, the Management Consultant of the Foundation, Mr. Femi Martins revealed that Bunmi Adedayo Foundation focuses on primary education because it has the capacity to sustain a child through out life if a solid foundation is laid.
Although education is endless, but the tiny steps of education, which is the primary schools require urgent attention. Although BAF was founded to immortalize Olubunmi Omotayo Adedayo (OOA), we have evolved to solve real life problems of poor teacher and leadership qualities in Nigeria through our various education intervention programmes
In her remarks, the CEO of Nurture House Consulting, the Project Technical/Implementing Partner, Mrs. Ayopeju Njideaka said the approach of the intervention is tested and proven. She called on teachers to always see themselves as the most important resource in the classroom and can always be at their best if the develop the right mindset.
Mrs. Ayopeju disclosed there shall be a total of 5 sessions designed to address some key areas such as “debunking Math Myths, Psychology of Teaching and Learning Math, Math Proficiency Strands, Strategies and Tools for Effective Math lessons, Lesson Plan Building Blocks and a Lesson Planning Project among others.
Also, the Grants and Partnership Lead of BAF, Mr. John Klutse appreciated the Project Sponsor, and other partners for sharing in the vision to empower Math teachers.
The event ended with a demo session on how to use the BAF Learning Management System, www.balearner.org
